These people have the power to make the world a nicer place to live in. Town centres could be places worth visiting. Streets could be lined with trees. Buidlings made unique, interesting to behold and at one with their surroundings. Instead town centres are homes to grey, concrete monstrosities; streets are increasingly paved with tarmac; and all the new supermarkets and shopping centres and official buildings all follow the same basic look as if all the architects went to the same school (and it was shut).
