Weep no more sad willow tree

Weep no more sad willow tree
Sky no more be blue
Rain clouds change your dowdy grey
For some brighter hue
Let each flower become a rose
Let rainbows fill the sky
Widows put on your brightest clothes
And let you tears dry
Declare today an holiday
Put vigour in your stride
For today, the joyous, wonderful day!
My love became my bride.

Published in TOPS (The Old Police Station poetry magazine) issue 82, Spring 1990 (ISSN 0144-22848). I can’t remember if I was influenced by, or indeed knew about at the time, James Leigh Hunt’s poem Jenny Kissed Me but certainly the above poem is meant to share the same sense of joy.
